Pre-school Graduation | Boulder portrait photographer

Between the month of April flying by and the last five years, I can’t believe my little girl will be heading out on her newest adventure, kindergarten. On Friday night, CCLC celebrated the 5 year olds. With a handmade sign created by the kids, we made a photo booth to capture this momentous moment with a family photo for everyone.

Here are a few of them, mine included. I’m never in my own photos so this one means a lot to me.

I need to head off to bed as I am running the Title 9 Mother’s Day run at 9am tomorrow. Cold, wet and raining is the forecast. Doesn’t it sound great! Want to join me? Hope you have a warm and cozy Mother’s Day tomorrow! You deserve it. xo. j

1,825 days

1,825 days means my baby girl is 5 (she turned 5 back in November). Remembering life before kids is hard because it feels life really began 1,825 days ago. The little bean is now a ripping skier, a jokester, a twirling princess, a reader, a biker, and a lover of life.

For her 5th birthday party, we had an eco-themed party using all local products/businesses. Jeff Kagan and Paige, Madeleine’s two favorite singers, gave a concert at North Boulder Rec Center. Bird Dog Press designed the email card and all the printables. Tee and Cakes made the melt-in-your-mouth peanut butter and red velet cupcakes. Dish catered the great kid and adult friendly sandwiches. And the goodie bags were actually a reusable goodie bags made by Two+Two and came with carrot seeds to plant in your garden.

Who doesn’t want to get their hands dirty with paint, learn how to letter press, or take more compelling photos of their life? Carving out creative time and space, can be difficult between loads of laundry, cooking dinner, and picking up toys. I can’t usually even find my fabric scissors, let along find 3 hours to sew. Escaping to Chautauqua for a dedicated creative retreat where your right brain can be the boss, is the best therapy. My recommendation, grab your mom or your best friend and sign up for the 2012 weekend.

Last year I documented The Makerie and my photos recently appeared in two magazines: Mollie Makes and Uppercase. Seeing your work published never seems to get old.

my head is spinning these days. in the past week, i traveled to telluride, utah, and back to denver for an art show, picture society, i co-curated. then my mom was in town visiting for four days. i even spent my entire saturday at the american girl store for my daughter’s soon to be birthday. the store gave me a headache.

it is hard to see the small things in life when life is moving a light speed. however, this morning my little guy dug out my gray chucks in the closet so our shoes would match. a smile appeared every time i peered down at my shoes today. thanks to my little boy for making my day brighter. -jv

Boulder family photographer, Off we go

In about an hour, we are starting our summer adventure to Georgian Bay for two weeks. Our cottage has been in our family for over 100 years and my kids are 5 generation. It is my favorite place on earth and I can’t wait to dip my toes into the bay.

These are some family photos from over the years. I have a personal project that I am working on based on the cottage which I will show here in the fall.

P.S. If anyone has tricks for how not to stay up until 2am packing and organizing for family trips, please tell me! I can’t seem to streamline the process when packing for four.
