The 2 minute kid portrait shoot | Boulder children photographer

Time is just flying. Where did February go? It freaks me out how fast the time goes, and how old I am getting. I realized yesterday I had not taken any photos of my kids in awhile so I had an impromptu backyard portrait session with Madeleine. She gave me two minutes of her time to capture her ever changing self.

Photo tips: Make sure to clean your child’s face off 5 or 10 minutes before you snap photos of her. Usually, she is not too happy with the snot wipe so thinking ahead gives them a few minutes to recuperate. When shooting in your own backyard look for the best place to get even light on your child’s face. If you have DSLR and you shoot on the manual setting, I recommend putting your child’s back to the sun and over exposing the background. If you are using a point and shoot, find some open shade.

During the fall months, I tend to get behind on my blog posts. Between the weddings and portrait sessions, I could not keep up. Over the next few weeks, I am going to do my best to catch up! This shoot was on a glorious fall day in Boulder with Madeline who was almost one at the time. I just love her bright smile with just a few teeth. It is amazing how a baby’s face changes with every tooth.

A kid’s Birthday Party and a 1,000 pink gumballs | Children’s photographer, Boulder Colorado

This all started with idea of pink gumballs and it snowballed from there. I ordered bulk gumballs because I only wanted pink, Maddie’s favorite color. Searching the web, I found the best price for pink gumballs, but I neglected to really pay attention to the number of gumballs. Three days later, a 1,000 pink gumballs landed on my front step.

Pink, circles, and gum balls were the theme of Maddie’s 4th birthday party. The gum balls decorated the red velvet cake and I found the recipe on Design Sponge, one of my favorite sites. Bird Dog Press made adorable letter press coasters to be used with the pink lemonade. And from Bird Dog Press’ design, I had some cute buttons made by Shut Your Button for all the guests to wear. Between the pink balloons and the beautiful flowers from Brighter Day Floral, Maddie’s party was pinkfully successful.

Feeling sad for how fast my little girl is growing up, I made a photo garland with photos from each stage in her life. My plan is to put together a book of the images for her to keep and look through to see how big she has gotten. Maddie’s sweet smock dress was mine growing up. My mom kept all my smock dresses and this will probably be the last birthday she can wear one. I guess we will need to start a new family tradition next year.

Here is another session from the fall mini sessions with Bella. This is the second time this year that I have photographed Bella and it so much fun to see her grow up.

Personally, I think one of the best things about little girls is pig tails. Nothing is cuter and Bella is just adorable with hers.

As we like to tell the story, Danyelle picked me up at the Hungry Toad during the Superbowl in 2004. She and I were both with our boyfriends now husbands watching the Superbowl. However, she and I were both more into the commercials than the game. The chatting started and it has not stopped in six years.

Last weekend, Danyelle and her family came out to Wonderland Lake for my special fall outdoor portrait session. The weather was fantastic on Sunday and clouds lent itself to wonderful soft light. Lily was a ham and was a good sport trucking through the tall grass.

Tomorrow is Danyelle’s birthday and I wanted to give her this gift of time and memories. As we know, it all goes by so quickly. Celebrate your most soulful moments with photography.

Happy birthday D! You are a beautiful woman, friend, wife and mother. I feel so lucky to have you in my life.

A fabulous place for a kid birthday party is Clementine Studio in Boulder, CO. Glitter, glue, paints, beads, are just a few of the fun projects for the kids to do during the party. I would highly recommend it.

Obviously, it took six chocolate chips to convince my 3 year old to allow me to make some pictures of her in this fabulous get-up. Who can beat ballerina pjs, a happy new year diamond crown, pink rubber kitty boots, and red popsicle stained lips at 8:30pm on a Friday night? Not me!
