Brian and Stacy own Dish, a delicious spot for breakfast or lunch on Pearl Street in Boulder, Colorado. It is yummy! Besides having a fabulous restaurant, they also have the cutest little boy, Toby, and Penny the puppy. We spent the early evening playing outside and exploring the open spaces of Boulder.

Last November, I photographed Keira and Joe’s intimate wedding at Dunton Hot Springs where I met Kristin and Matt. Five months pregnant, Kristin was very excited to meet this little guy who was due in April. Beckett arrived on 4-20-2010 and he has to be one of the sweetest little ones ever. There were no clothes involved in this shoot as we wanted to capture the beauty of his little baby body. This was one of those shoots where I could have stayed all day and made pictures.

Obviously, it took six chocolate chips to convince my 3 year old to allow me to make some pictures of her in this fabulous get-up. Who can beat ballerina pjs, a happy new year diamond crown, pink rubber kitty boots, and red popsicle stained lips at 8:30pm on a Friday night? Not me!

I learned something new from Jake on Saturday at Wonderland Lake in Boulder, Colorado. The white smoke trail behind an airplane is called a contrail. I had totally forgotten the word “contrail”, but Jake was quick to teach me.

Jake did not stop smiling during the entire spring photography session. As the camera went up to my eye, his smile mimicked the cheshire cat. The words cheese, pizza, and ice cream would illicit even bigger smiles.

Just before the rain came back on Sunday afternoon, I captured these photos of Lucia at Wonderland Lake in Boulder. Look at her sweet smile so curious and perfect. There was a lot of running, hugging, and laughing.

These sisters were so sweet. 10 months and 2 years old, they already have a sweet relationship. Luckily the weather held out for us on Sunday to do the shoot. Colorado has been having some crazy spring weather which always makes scheduling outside a gamble. However, I feel it is worth the gamble for the beauty of natural light.

Marilee is an outstanding photographer in Lyons, Colorado and she is expecting her first baby in May. Being a photographer, she knew what she wanted and found the perfect meadow in Lyons minus the cacti. I loved how she wore Dan’s white button down shirt.

What to wear to a photo session | Colorado kids photographer

Figuring out what to wear for your photo session does not need to stress you out. I know it is hard to decide what to wear, but I thought this photo might help. Don’t judge me too much, but my weekly guilty pleasure is reading my US Weekly. Last night curled up in my bed I came across this photo and I loved how everything came together so nicely. Of course, this family had a personal stylist who shopped for their outfits and you can do the same thing at Target, Gap, Mini Boden, Tea, Crew Cuts or by simply going through your dressers. You may be surprise by what you already have. Also remember consignment clothing stores are a fabulous place to find great deals. In Boulder, you have Childish Things for the babies and kids and Rags to Riches and Common Threads for moms. Dads might need to go to Marshall’s or TJMAXX.

The take away from this photo is noticing how they all have yellow but the patterns and shade are all different. Plus the season is spring so a bright yellow is a perfect compliment to the green trees and yellow feels cheerful and warm. I love how there is a hint of yellow in the background as well to tie the whole photo together. There might be a little too much yellow going on for you, but I hope it gives you a better understanding of how to pair styles and colors together. Kendra’s color/style might feel a bit outrageous for your family, but the take way is to see how three individuals can have different patterns and style yet still come together. Another idea is you can bring a solid sweater or jacket which would give you different looks to one outfit without having to do an entire outfit change. This is so much more fun the khaki pants and white polo starched shirts.

Looking through magazines is a great way to get ideas too. Personally, I love the style of Dwell and they often do family shoots.

If you are doing my mini spring photo session on April 24th and 25th, we will be outside with the green just starting to come out and the tall brownish grass. Little girls would look adorable in bright pinks and boys would look handsome in vibrant blues and greens. Your clothes are an expression of your personality so don’t shy away from what you love.

Remember don’t over think this. You already have great style.

Alicia looked gorgeous at 37 weeks. Over the course of an hour, we moved furniture around, took art work off the walls, and made several outfit changes to make these photos. It was really fun to play and create.

Taking the time to capture this moment is something you will never regret because you will miss your belly once it is gone.
